The ADS-B Retrofit Kit is a standards compliant solution intended for owners of legacy general aviation aircraft
who must upgrade their transponder to mode S and comply with the FAA 2020 mandate for ADS-B "out".
Benefit To Customer
The cost drivers for a new ADS-B system are the high-power RF components.
By splicing an ADS-B Lite "back end" onto an existing Mode A or Mode C transponder, the customer gets
an affordable solution with the following features:
1090 MHz mode S transponder with Extended Squitter signal processing
ADS-B "out" transmitter configurable as standards compliant or enhanced
integrated GPS for location, precise time and velocity determination
USB interface for power and data to a mobile phone or tablet with:
An ADS-B "in" horizontal situation display on a moving map
Audible resolution advisories with recommended avoidance maneuvers
A flight planning / filing / following interface
Effective Radiated Power (ERP): at least 70 watts
There is no change in ERP from Mode A or Mode C transponder being upgraded.
Mode S Transponder with 1090 MHz Extended Squitter: included
The ADS-B Lite "back end" determines the appropriate response to an IFF interrogation and encodes the extended squitter messages for ADS-B "out".
Identification Friend or Foe (IFF): included
The received IFF signal is processed to determine the appropriate transponder reply, if any.
IFF transmission of air-to-air interrogations is not supported.
GPS Aided Inertial Navigation System (INS): optional
This system can provide location, velocity, attitude, heading and altitude data even when GPS service is denied.
For manned flight in Visual Meterological Conditions (VMC) it is not really needed.
